The white sugar sand of Siesta Key

sarasota0707-004-2
Melanie looks for a spot to start catching tan on Siesta Key, Sarasota, Florida. We spent six days here in July '07, with nothing much to do but lay in the sun and swim in the ocean. The water's warm as bathwater, even late in the evening, and the sand is fine and white as powdered sugar. Photo Friday: Vacation.

Free Flight Competition

An SAM flyer user a prop starter to get the prop going.

A flyer waits for optimal conditions by a mylar thermal indicator. See more pics from the competition. (Click 'Slideshow' for the best view.) I'm honored that these pics were well received by the flyers. One said I could "probably get a steady job as the official MMM photographer."

Girls' Basketball

basketball
The third and fourth grade girls of St. Bernadette's and Holy Family Catholic Schools vie for district champ. My nieces Mary and Ellen play for St. Bernadette's. Mary, 3rd grade, is progressing well in her abilities. Ellen, 4th, is one of the star players. She scored most of the goals. I'm happy to say that St. Bernadette's whipped Holy Family's butt. And yes, I admit that just saying that last sentence is a lot of fun. Photo Friday: Busy.

Memorial for Hannah

hannah2Hannah Boemker Memorial 2
Hannah Boemker, 16, was killed when she pulled in front of an ambulance that was racing across town in response to a 911 call. It turned out some idiot was afraid of a smoking barbecue grill.
